Every now and again I dabble in poetry/creative writing. Here is "Ode To Chicago" In honor of a special place in time.
I first met Chicago the cold winter of 2013. Through the blustery winter and freezing temps I could still envision the beautiful summer that was to come. From my first impression Chicago was warm, busy moving like Lakeshore drive during morning traffic. Chicago...seemed like a far off land foreign to me because I had never been somewhere that complemented me so well, gave me a laugh more refreshing than coffee at 8 a.m. Chicago kept me warm at night with the lights from the sky scrapers and promised me beautiful trees when spring came. Months of waiting for the sites of Chicago I couldn't hold my excitement and when spring came, it was me and Chicago. The streets were covered with tourists flickering cameras crowded train stations. Through all the crime and 2 shot dead over the weekend I still saw the beauty that was Chicago. Time moved us along and our wires got crossed from time to time but I knew that Chicago was mine. Yet and still, every spring I had to take a trip to my happy place, full of noise street music and performers, museums and culture. My beautiful Chicago. Still full of mystery and wonder it's still one of the best sights I've seen. On st. Patty's day the river is dyed green and I fill with envy at the thought of all the visitors who share in the excitement of my beautiful Chicago. No miles, no snow, could keep me from peace and energy of such a place. My heart lies in Chicago. This is my ode to Chicago.
